The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Pits Woody and Buzz Against a Tablet Computer
Exactly 30 years since the first Toy Story movie was released, launching the animation giant as a leading film company and bringing viewers to beloved characters like the cowboy doll (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a glimpse into the storyline but leaving fans curious how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang
The preview reveals the young girl — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a latest toy, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser avoids is why the sheriff is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a fair and helping prize toys find good homes.
Certainly, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The last thing Woody did before departing for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the insignia attached to her outfit.
It is hoped she is remains the key figure among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
