Lando Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
The British driver has outperformed Oscar Piastri at each of the last five race weekends.
The McLaren driver just pipped fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the final moments of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who grabbed the title advantage from his teammate by just one point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, topped the Australian by 0.023 seconds.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren throughout the hour before sprint qualifying set to begin at the evening session.
The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in the championship fight, lying 36 points behind Norris, was classified in P17 as his Red Bull team opted for a unique setup.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to crash, though minor, when he spun at Turn Four soon after starting.
Tsunoda lost control over the track edges before spinning across the gravel trap, and was blessed to avoid just a minor contact of the fence.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also lost it, at the final moments of the session, spinning around through the quick descending corner before the final bend on to the pit straight.
The veteran wrapped up in P19, just behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were far ahead of the other competitors, with the German's car third fastest, over half a second off the Australian's time.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
