The winter transfer market is always a time of intense rumour and possible major transfers. A number of notable stars are being linked with moves out of their current clubs. Here is a look at some of the top figures that could be on the move this month.

Antoine Semenyo

Despite the Black Stars' failure to reach the AFCON, this has kept the player available, reports suggest a major move is imminent. This Bournemouth attacker has a deal featuring a sizeable release clause active for a short window in early January. Latest developments suggest Manchester City look to have won the race for his signature. Former suitors like Chelsea and Tottenham are said to have turned their attention to alternative targets, potentially opening the door for clubs like Manchester United or Liverpool to attempt a late bid.

M. Guéhi

The England centre-back has continued to excel for Crystal Palace despite a previous move to Anfield collapsing. With his deal set to run out in the close season, this represents the club's final chance to obtain a fee for their skipper. A host of top sides, such as City and multiple continental powerhouses like Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Barcelona, reportedly hold an interest. However, a January departure remains difficult, especially given the coach's dependence on the defender.

Brennan Johnson

The Wales forward has found first-team opportunities limited at Spurs this term. Despite finishing as the club's leading goalscorer the previous campaign, he has begun only a handful of league matches. Reports suggest the North London club would be willing to consider a sale for the right price, thought to be in the region of forty million pounds. Bournemouth appear to be leading the chase, with Aston Villa, Brentford, and Crystal Palace also credited with an interest.

Rúben Neves

The Portugal midfielder could be poised for a comeback to the English top flight following a period in the Saudi Pro League. Still only 28, and with his contract expiring in the summer of 2026, he is a potential bargain. Teams such as Manchester United and Liverpool are connected to the former Wolves man. Furthermore, there are rumours from Spain that he is prepared to accept a reduced salary for a switch to the Spanish giants.

Marc-André ter Stegen

The experienced German goalkeeper is now as the third option at Barça under the coach Hansi Flick. After lost his place and had an operation, a January exit seems highly likely. Aston Villa were initially mentioned as a potential destination, but that option now appears unlikely. Instead, clubs from Turkey and Saudi Arabia are thought to be expressing curiosity in the keeper.

Ivan Toney

The prolific English centre-forward has continued finding the net regularly in Saudi Arabia. A return to the Premier League might enhance his fading hopes of making the England World Cup. But, arranging a transfer presents significant challenges. Al-Ahli are reluctant to sell him, and his alleged enormous weekly wages make any agreement difficult. Tottenham, Manchester United, and Everton have all been mentioned as admirers.

C. Gallagher

The dynamic English midfielder attracted widespread interest in the summer but remained at Atlético. Harvey Elliott

Although starring and being named the best player award at the Under-21 European Championship in the summer, the talented midfielder has struggled for minutes on loan at Villa. Unai Emery has stated the loan move won't become permanent. Due to FIFA regulations about representing multiple teams in a campaign, a return to Liverpool before next season appears to be the only viable outcome.

K. Yildiz

This highly-rated Turkey forward is in fine form for Juventus this season. As his current deal running down, many Premier League sides – including Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool – are keeping tabs on the developments. Juventus are desperate to tie down the youngster to a lengthy contract but are in a battle to retain one of Europe's most promising young talents.

K. Smit

The much-admired Dutch teenage midfielder has drawn parallels to a Belgian superstar for his playing style. After starring at the Under-19 European Championship, he has become a regular in the AZ first team. The 19-year-old is heavily tipped to make a major transfer this month. Newcastle are believed to be frontrunners, but are facing stiff rivalry from the Spanish champions for a signing priced at around £22 million.
